"Senate Bill 5135, also known as the Pollution Prevention for Healthy People and Puget Sound Act, creates a new way to keep harmful chemicals out of the environment. We are naming the program that implements the law 'Safer Products for Washington.' The new law authorizes us to regulate classes of chemicals in consumer products" - Safer Products for Washington

Hazard assessment of chemicals was core to the identification of chemical classes by the Washington State Legislature and will be core to identifying safer alternatives.

Oregon Toxic-Free Kids Act:

The Toxic-Free Kids Act "requires manufacturers of children's products sold in Oregon to report products that contain one or more high priority chemicals of concern for children's health, and ultimately remove these chemicals or seek a waiver."

The state's draft regulations on "requirements for chemical substitution" include the identification of less hazardous substances using a hazard assessment, including GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals.
